With Aromatherapy, combined with Relaxation Massage, Lindsey can treat a wide variety of physical emotional and spiritual conditions. This is because Aromatherapy acts not only on the physical body but on the emotional body and subtle energy centers within the person as a whole. Aromatherapy is essentially a holistic approach to maintaining balance in the body, mind and spirit with a range of techniques aimed to help you realize your full potential so you can feel like the best version of yourself.
How Aromatherapy Works
Aromatherapy is an all natural therapeutic body treatment using concentrated extracts of plants called Essential Oils.
Aromatherapists use these Essential Oils in a specific way to treat the whole person through balance of body, mind and soul. Each blend is individually blended to cater to each client's specific needs.
Essential Oils can be administered in a variety of ways but the most common is through massage and inhalation, and they work on both the body and the mind. Through massage, the oils are absorbed through the skin and pass into the blood stream to enhance the body.
Through Inhalation they act differently. The scent plays a big role here, where tiny molecules of the essential oil impinge on the Olfactory Epithelium in the nasal passage which contains over 20 million nerve endings. The scent is then transmuted into a nerve message which is amplified by the Olfactory Bulb and the passes into the Olfactory Tract and enters the Limbic System. The nerve impulse is analyzed by the Amygdala and the Hippocampus, which are memory centers and play a major role in emotional responses and is then turned into a nerve message. This is the point where the scent may trigger a memory, either recent or distant. The nerve message is then passed to the Hypothalamus, which acts as a regulator and relay system, which then has the option of sending the message on to several other parts of the Limbic System in the brain. Scents that are euphoric in nature, like Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) tend to stimulate the Thalamus to secrete neurochemicals called Enkaphalins. These act as painkillers, but also induce feelings of well being and euphoria, which make us feel uplifted.
Scents that are aphrodisiacs, like Ylang Ylang (Canaga Odorata) stimulate the Pituitary Gland which then secretes Endorphins. These are also pain killers that can induce both euphoria as well as stimulating sexuality and are particularly good for fertility work and to balance the hormonal systems because the Pituitary Gland governs many endocrine glands in the body, including the thyroid, adrenals and sexual glands.
Scents that are sedating like Marjoram (Origanum Majorana) cause the brain to stimulate the Raphe Nucleus, which releases Serotonin, a sedating neurochemical. This can help with sleep and anxiety.
Scents that are stimulating, like Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) affect the Locus Cerulus, which then releases Noradrenaline, which has the effect of waking us up. These are particularly good when you have to focus on a task at hand, or are having trouble waking up in the morning.
Aromatherapy treatments are highly effective and can be used to treat a vast range of conditions. Take home products available to enhance the effectiveness of the Aromatherapy treatment.
