Shiatsu is a vital therapy that can ensure the integrated wellbeing of one’s body, mind and spirit. The Japanese word ‘shiatsu’ means finger pressure, although other parts of the body, hands, arms and feet are also used and stretches incorporated.
How it works The basis of Shiatsu is the movement of energy (Ki or Chi). The quality of Ki movement determines how we feel, how we perform and how we cope. Rhythmic pressure is applied along meridians (energy pathways), to rebalance the flow of Ki throughout the body. Vertical pressure supplements energy deficiency and drains the excess, promoting good health, increasing body awareness, and restoring the body’s natural regenerative powers.Diagnostic techniques uncover the underlying causes of your condition, which are then corrected using the appropriate combination of meridians.Whilst advanced conditions may not respond ideally, shiatsu is invaluable for relieving pain and anxiety often associated with serious ill health. Shiatsu is an wholistic approach that induces a sense of deep relaxation, relief of pain, wellbeing and vitality. If you are interested in a preventative approach to your health, a regular session of shiatsu will maintain your good health, reduce burnout, common illnesses and the build-up of stress on the body and mind. Shiatsu benefits a wide range of conditions including Back, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, headaches, OOS/RS, asthma, digestive problems, nervous disorders such as depression, the effects of long-term stress, and the grieving process, pregnancy and hormonal imbalance. All age groups benefit from Shiatsu.
Relieve your own stress The kidneys also feel deeply the effects of stress. An easy and effective way to relieve stress is to hold one hand gently on the forehead, while the other holds the hara, i.e. the area on the abdomen just below the navel or belly button. Hold both hands until the feeling of stress is relieved. Great for helping you get to sleep!
